Zac Buehner makes art like a therapeutic practice or meditative ritual, often weaving psychological and spiritual symbolism into the work. He began this process to manage his experience with bi-polar, using objects central to his wellbeing as tools for his art making — a prescription bottle became a compass and a photo of a friend a straight edge, making work confronting imbalance and disorder. Every tool was chosen for its meaning as much as its utility, turning them into objects for self reflection while working. His art moves from deeply personal, to more universal explorations of the human condition, with an ever expanding array of tools and methods to work with. He has shown work in New York City, Boston, S. Korea, and Vietnam — his most recent solo exhibition ‘Current’ opened in May 2025 at Vin Gallery, HCMC.

Buehner’s formative years were spent doing graffiti, a craft he’s maintained for over 30 years alongside his art practice. To support his passions, he has worked as a metalsmith, art fabricator, and creative director. He was born and raised in New York City (b. 1980), and now lives in Hoi An, Vietnam, with his wife and son.
